Cafe on the Ridge offers a breath-taking view of Taal Volcano for diners who are seeking a scenic and relaxing meal whilst visiting the city of Tagaytay. Located at the heart of the city, the location and convenience is unbeatable.
For starters, try the crispy tawilis— tiny finger-sized fish indigenously grown in Taal Lake and a delicacy among its neighbouring towns. The inherent tastiness of this fish once deep-fried can readily stand on its own with minor seasoning. Try to eat it once served so that it maintains its crispiness. The bulalo soup, though presented very well with a variety of local seasonings displayed alongside it, lacked flavour and didn’t come altogether. The meat could use a little more tenderness, and a little less whole peppercorn sprinkled. The karekare, on the other hand, had a good blend of ingredients and the meat, though scarce, was very tender and tasty. However, the sauce is watered-down, and requires pairing with its flavourful bagoong condiment. For dessert, the Volcano Eruption offers an exciting treat to see chocolate filling ooze out as you devour it. The outer crust was a bit dry, but the vanilla ice cream certainly paired well and saved the dish.
